WIA CEM Green Pathways Students

You are eligible to receive a book voucher to purchase your required books and office supplies for classes on your approved education plan. If you have not picked up your books yet, stop by the office for a book voucher.

Also, you are eligible to receive a parking permit or bus pass. You may pick up your permit or pass at the Student Affairs office above the bookstore. Let us know you have picked it up so we can write a voucher to cover the cost.

Background Check Fees for WIA Students

WIA will no longer be reimbursing students for Background Check fees. These fees are similar to fingerprint fees which they are no longer covering.

WIA Student Reimbursement Process

Here's a reminder of what the County requires from you for reimbursements. This process must be followed or the County will return your paperwork to our office and will not reimburse you without further documentation. Refer to the previous post WIA Funding Changes for a list of approved items.

For each request for reimbursement, you must submit the original receipt or a confirmation email showing how you paid for the item. If you purchase something online and fill out an application form, print out your application to submit with your reimbursement request. If you do not receive a confirmation email from the company, this application will serve as your receipt.

For each request for reimbursement, you must also submit proof of payment. For transactions handled with a check this would be a copy of the front and the back of the check (once it has cleared your bank). For credit card transactions proof of payment is a copy of the credit card statement showing the transaction. For your protection, black out account numbers. Most banks and credit card companies make this information available online. As always, you are welcome to print from the computer at Fast Track.

For cash transactions, the proof of payment is the original receipt stating it was paid with cash.

You will also need to fill out the reimbursement request form, limit 6 items per form. They are available in the Fast Track office or on the Fast Track website WIA page. Scroll to the bottom to Forms and click on Reimbursement for Training Expenses.

CalWORKs Hourly Activity Reports

CalWORKs students remember you MUST turn in an Hourly Activity Report for each month. It is due on the 5th day of the following month. September's report was due on October 5th. If you have not turned in your September report to the Fast Track office, please do so A.S.A.P.

Remember to print your name and ETS in the top section and sign at the bottom!

Join the California Energy Service Corps!

The California Conservation Corps (CCC) will employ 20, 18-25 year-old members to work full time at Central Coast Energy Services (CCES), located in Watsonville to learn to administer, implement, and inform public on energy efficiency programs throughout Santa Cruz, San Benito, & Monterey counties for low-income residences to support energy conservation

Learn to:
  • Evaluate energy efficiency in homes!
  • Install weather stripping, windows, doors, lighting fixtures, toilets, & more!
  • Organize volunteer opportunities!
  • Promote energy efficiency services!
  • Process Applications!
  • Perform face-to-face & phone customer service!
Program highlights include:
  • 1 year of full-time service
  • Annual stipend/living allowance of $13,600/year, paid monthly
  • Uniforms and boots are supplied
  • Includes childcare and health care benefits
  • At completion of program requirements, you can earn a scholarship of up to $7,350 towards any accredited school or existing student loans

Cabrillo's Student File Server Down Friday

The Cabrillo student and faculty network folders will be unavailable this Friday, October 22nd due to an urgent need to replace an aging, ill-performing server.

If you intend to work on a computer this Friday, you need to be prepared to save your work somewhere else. The folders will be available again on Saturday.

Tax Credit For Employers

If you are looking for a job, contact the EDD office in Capitola to see if the employer would receive a tax credit for hiring you. This would apply if you are receiving CalWORKs or food stamps.

WIA Nursing Exam Fee

The "permit and Board application fees" listed on the approved reimbursement list refers to the application for licensure by examination and interim permit that is paid to the Board of Registered Nursing. The application fee is $75 and the interim permit is $30 for a total of $105. These expenses are approved for reimbursement.

Deadline to Petition for Graduation

Attention students graduating at the end of this semester!

The deadline to petition for Certificates and Degrees for Fall 2010 graduates is November 19. You must complete your petition with an academic counselor here or in the General Counseling Office or if you are a DSPS or EOPS student, they can help you.

No Winter 2011 Session

At this time the regular 2011 Winter session is suspended per the Board of Trustees. If your education plan has classes planned for that session, you will need to make an appointment to update it with our counselor. It would be a good idea to wait until the Spring 2011 schedule is out, which will be around November 11.

Although there will not be a regular winter session, there are a handful of classes during January for select cohorts of students: ATH 10, DMCP 110, Italian, RT 53B, RT 64, and Spanish.

Administrative Director Job Opening

The Pajaro Valley Arts Council, which operates the Gallery at 37 Sudden Street in Watsonville and the Sculpture Is exhibit at Sierra Azul Nursery, is seeking applications for the newly created position of Administrative Director. The position is envisioned as an interim position for a one to two year transition during which we secure the funding base to launch an Executive Director position.

The Administrative Director (AD) is a part time hourly position without benefits. Hours will vary from 15 to 25 hours per week depending on the Gallery's exhibit calendar. The AD will oversee and ensure the completion of all tasks needed for the smooth functioning of PVAC, including bill payment, exhibit coordination (sales, tours, and events), grant reporting, tax filing, and any other pertinent administrative tasks.

The AD will work closely with the Board of Directors and be supervised by and report to the President of the Board. Strong clerical and communication skills are required; bilingual (Spanish-English) a big plus.

This is a 2-day class held at Cabrillo College, Aptos campus. Please be prepared to attend both days.
