June CalWORKs Hourly Activity Reports Due

If you are a CalWORKs student, your June Hourly Activity Report (HAR) needs to be turned in to the FTTW office ON or BEFORE July 6th.
 
Please do not send your HAR's to your worker! It only slows down the process. If you turn in reports on time, your name will be entered into a monthly drawing for a gas gift card.
 
The blank forms can be found at the bottom of the CalWORKs page of our website.

Here's a Story to Inspire You!

When Amanda Lamond discovered she was pregnant at 18 years old, many people doubted she would ever reach her dream of becoming a doctor. But when Dr. Amanda Lamond-Holden takes the stage tonight at a ceremony to celebrate the end of her residency at UCSD Medical Center, her son Braden, 15, will be clapping the hardest. "It's been a long journey," Lamond-Holden told ABCNews.com of her 16 years of schooling and raising children.

Summer Books and Classes

June 18th is the first day of summer session. It is the last day to add or register for a summer class and is also the first and only day to drop a class.

Director of Community Support Services Job Opening

The Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center is currently accepting applications for Director of Community Support Services. This position oversees the adult mental health programs, transition-age foster youth services, supportive housing, and HIV/AIDS services. Click here for more information.

Dress for Success Workshop

All female Fast Track To Work students are invited to attend a Dress for Success workshop at the Fast Track To Work office on June 15th from 9:00 to 12:00. Fast Track has received women's clothing in sizes 10 to 24 to be given away to our students. 

Everyone will get at least one interviewing outfit. CalWORKs students may count hours attended toward their required monthly hours. Students should wear appropriate foundations for proper fittings.

Catherine Lachance Accepts CCC CalWORKs Assoc. Treasurer Position

Fast Track To Work is extremely proud to announce that Catherine Lachance, Student Services/Fast Track To Work Project Manager, has accepted the position of Treasurer for the California Community Colleges CalWORKs Association. This will be her third term as Treasurer. Catherine is very committed to the CalWORKs Association's mission and its advocacy work.

The purpose of the CCC CalWORKs Association is to provide leadership for the development, implementation and promotion of effective CalWORKs programs within the California Community Colleges while recognizing and strengthening our professional responsibility to serve CalWORKs students.
  • To promote unity and professionalism among California Community College CalWORKs Programs;
  • To communicate the needs of the Community College CalWORKs program and students to community college administrators, the Chancellor and other policymakers at the national, state and local level;
  • To assist in implementing statewide policies, programs and regulations in relation to the unique needs of each of the community colleges;
  •  To act as the base of a communications network among CalWORKs staff, students, other related committees and workgroups, county welfare departments,  the State Department of Social Services, the Chancellor's office staff and other groups that serve CalWORKs  students in community colleges.
Membership is open to all assigned personnel in any California Community Colleges. Individuals, students, institutions, or partner agency personnel involved in CalWORKs programs, whose professional interests are furthered by membership in this organization, are also eligible to become members upon payment of dues.

Work Study Funding

Attention all Fast Track To Work Work Study students. Funding for the 2011-2012 work study ended on June 1st. If you have any questions please contact our office, 479-6344.

Summer 2012 Parking Permits

You may be pick up your parking permit beginning June 4th at the Student Affairs office on the Aptos Campus, and the Admissions & Records office on the Watsonville Campus.

If you have not already done so, please add your parking permit to your registration as soon as possible. In the future, make your selection during your registration process in WebAdvisor. This helps streamline our process for paying your tuition and fees.

Summer 2012 Book Vouchers

The Bookstore will start selling books for the Summer Session on June 6th.You should stop by the office to fill out your book request form soon so that we have time to process your request before the first day of classes.

WIA Students
When you come to our office to fill out the book request form, please bring the following items with you:
  • a copy of your current education plan showing Summer 2012 
  • Summer 2012 class schedule printout from WebAdvisor
  • List of books printout from the bookstore website of required books.
We will verify you are registered for classes on your ed plan, are only requesting required books for the classes you are enrolled in and that you are on the list at the bookstore. You may pick up your approved voucher on June 6 and take it to the bookstore to purchase your books. You must bring your cash register receipt to our office ASAP.

CalWORKs Students
When you come to our office to fill out the book request form, please bring the following items with you:
  • a copy of your current education plan showing Summer 2012 
  • Summer 2012 class schedule printout from WebAdvisor
  • List of books printout from the bookstore website of required books.
We will verify you are registered for classes on your ed plan, are only requesting required books for the classes you are enrolled in and that you are on the list at the bookstore. Then we will fax your request to your ETS.

You may request the voucher be sent back to the Fast Track office for pickup or you can arrange to pick it up from your ETS. Remember if you pick up your voucher from your ETS, you must come to the FTTW office BEFORE going to the book store so we may stamp your voucher. These vouchers cannot be used at the bookstore before June 6. Be sure to take a copy of the list of books to the bookstore when you purchase your books. They need to see which books have been approved. You must bring your cash register receipt to our office ASAP.
