Can You Get Money Back from the Goverment?

The Earned Income Tax Credit helps you keep more of what you earned. It is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals and families.

To qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit or EITC, you and your spouse if married and filing a joint return, must meet all of these rules.

To qualify, you must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if you do not owe any tax or are not required to file. Look here to see if your income level qualifies and what your credit would be.

Free Income Tax Filing Assistance

There are thousands of dollars available to working families in the form of tax credits. You can receive free assistance for your 2012 income tax filing so you can claim your tax credits without having to pay any preparation fees. Volunteers are available throughout the county from now through mid-April. Download a list of dates and locations here.

Santa Cruz County's general income limit to receive the free assistance is $51,000 of income for the entire household in 2012. Call 2-1-1 24/7 for more information.
