Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards

The Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards are cash awards given to motivated women who are the primary financial supporters of their families. This year the club in Capitola is awarding $2,000 for this award! The recipients of the awards seek to improve their lives by gaining additional skills, training or education, but do not have the resources to do so. These cash awards are meant to offset any costs associated with the recipient’s efforts to attain higher education, including tuition, books, supplies, childcare or transportation costs.

The Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards is the signature project of Soroptimist International of the Americas. Soroptimist International of Capitola By-the-Sea is one of nearly 1,500 clubs that make up Soroptimist International of the Americas, a volunteer service organization for women in business management and the professions working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

The application deadline is December 15th.

Santa Cruz County: If there is a wildfire or other emergency near your home and the fire department needs to evacuate people, they will do a reverse 911 call to all homes in the area to inform them when and how evacuation will happen. However you might not be home when they call, so you can register your cell phone number so that when they call homes in your area your cell number will be on the call list too. This website is only for Santa Cruz County. Do it now, it only takes 1 minute....really. Santa Cruz Regional 9-1-1.

Affordable Care Act/Health Care Reform/ObamaCare Information

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a federal law that makes changes to our health care system. It has also been called “health care reform” and “Obamacare.” The ACA will increase the number of people who have health insurance. It will do that by making private health insurance more affordable and expanding Medi-Cal, a public health insurance program.
Here are a couple flyers with basic information about the Affordable Care Act.
