Emergency Notification via Your Cell Phone

Today would be a great time to take a minute to sign up for Cabrillo's emergency notification system. If the upcoming storm causes power outages or other issues for the college, you will be sent a text message.

Cabrillo College offerings an SMS-based emergency notification service for your mobile phone. In the event of an emergency, Cabrillo students, staff, faculty and others will be alerted in real-time important security information. Click here for more information and to sign up.

Santa Cruz County: If there is an emergency near your home and the fire department needs to evacuate people, they will do a reverse 911 call to all homes in the area to inform them when and how evacuation will happen. However you might not be home when they call, so you can register your cell phone number so that when they call homes in your area your cell number will be on the call list too. This website is only for Santa Cruz County. Do it now, it only takes 1 minute....really. Santa Cruz Regional 9-1-1.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Opportunity

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program at United Way Monterey County is focused on helping families who earn under $53,000 a year to file and claim their full tax refund.

This program is unique, because our volunteers learn a valuable skill while also helping members of the community receive reliable tax counseling in a community setting.

You will receive free training in federal and state tax laws. United Way provides the training and materials at no cost. All we ask is that you sign up to volunteer at one of our tax sites for the tax season (Feb 1st-April 15th). On average, this is a commitment of 24 hours, done over three months. Sites are located in communities throughout Monterey County, and are open for three hours a week for the season.

Writing a Bibliography?

Writing a bibliography can be a tedious process, particularly since it usually must be done right after finishing a lengthy term paper. Mercifully, the advent of barcode scanning via smartphone has made this much easier. With EasyBib (free; iOS and Android), you simply scan the barcode of each book you’ve referenced, and it will populate a bibliography in MLA, APA or Chicago style. You can then email the citations to yourself and simply copy and paste at the end of your paper.

Pass/No Pass Deadline 10/4

Saturday, October 4 is the deadline to choose a pass/no pass option for Fall classes.

In some classes you can choose the P/NP grading option rather than a letter grade. Grades of P (pass) and NP (no pass) are not factored into your GPA. A P grade is a passing grade indicating satisfactory completion of course requirements. A NP grade is not a passing grade but will not hurt your GPA.

This grading option is not intended for courses required by your major. Transfer students should meet with a counselor prior to taking math or English composition courses via the P/NP grading option. Generally, math and English composition courses should be taken for letter grade.

For AA/AS degrees, up to twelve semester units may be P grades instead of letter grades.
