Free Income Tax Filing Assistance

There are thousands of dollars available to working families in the form of tax credits but you must file your 2013 income taxes to claim your credit.

Project Scout offers free assistance with your tax filing so you can claim your tax credits without having to pay any preparation fees. Volunteers are available throughout the county from now through mid-April.

Tax Assistance Calendar and Sites in Santa Cruz County

Project SCOUT (Senior Citizen OUTreach), is a program of the Seniors Council of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties, providing free tax assistance to the elderly, disabled and low-income populations.

Can You Get Money Back from the Goverment?

The Earned Income Tax Credit helps you keep more of what you earned. It is a refundable federal income tax credit for low to moderate income working individuals and families.

To qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit or EITC, you and your spouse if married and filing a joint return, must meet all of these rules.

To qualify, you must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if you do not owe any tax or are not required to file. Look here to see if your income level qualifies and what your credit would be.

Emergency Notification via Your Cell Phone

Cabrillo College offerings an SMS-based emergency notification service for your mobile phone. In the event of an emergency, Cabrillo students, staff, faculty and others will be alerted in real-time important security information. Click here for more information and to sign up.

Santa Cruz County: If there is an emergency near your home and the fire department needs to evacuate people, they will do a reverse 911 call to all homes in the area to inform them when and how evacuation will happen. However you might not be home when they call, so you can register your cell phone number so that when they call homes in your area your cell number will be on the call list too. This website is only for Santa Cruz County. Do it now, it only takes 1 minute....really. Santa Cruz Regional 9-1-1.
